Why Grow Your Own Mealworms?

Fresh & Sustainable Protein: Stop relying on store-bought feed. Grow your own mealworms with veggie scraps.

Will save money, looks good, super functional

This is going to be perfect solution to help bring the cost of keeping my chickens down, I've been wanting to grow and harvest my own mealworms for my flock for a long while but couldn't find anything that was practical and pretty that I could keep on my side, this is exactly what I've been looking for, love the fact it has carbon filters and is made from recycled plastics, it's well made and user friendly, Mrs nezbit in my picture approved currently having a heavy moult so the extra protein from the mealworms is much needed and the rest of the flock I'm sure will approve of the more consistent supply of mealworms to scratch around for and keep them busy in yet another cold and long chooken lockdown

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product! My pet lizards are really loving the mealworms too.

I recently received my mealworm growing pods and I absolutely love them! The pods are very functional and easy to use. I especially appreciate the high-quality plastic material that is 100% recycled! Very durable and easy to clean. The pods are also very easy to maintain, which is an added bonus. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend these mealworm growing pods to anyone interested in growing their own mealworms. My lizards are loving the live mealworms!

Excellent product to help save money

I bought this as I spend far too much money on insects (feeders!) for my reptiles and wild birds. Having the ability to harvest my own Mealworms will cut my monthly mealworm expenses down dramatically. I love the idea that all I have to do now is throw in some of my suitable fruit/veg scraps, rotate a few trays, and enjoy the worm harvest! 5 starts. Would highly recommend!

Much cleaner than separate storage bins

After months of raising mealworms in mismatched containers, switching to this kit freed up space and simplified maintenance. Assembly was quick, the lids fit securely, and the product description clearly noted that starter insects must be purchased separately.

Compact system with a sensible layout

The three trays stack neatly in a corner of the utility room and keep each stage of the colony organized. Carbon filters are a thoughtful addition, and the beetle inlay is much easier to manage than a homemade setup.

So much easier!

Better than my shoebox tote setup. Easy to set up and get going. Pods arrived in time to get them set up for the bugs arriving the next day (all alive and thriving!). After a week the beetles began expiring, I would separate the dead from the living next too the chick brooder. They would watch in absolute silence waiting for me to toss in the dead and a few worms adding to the entertainment.

Pleasing to the eyes but not very practical for larger flocks

I use a 3 drawer method so I wanted to do a comparison between this and my drawer system. While this is more pleasing to look at there are some pros and cons, Cons: I saw a higher die off rate with the beetles, hard to tell when the eggs will hatch or when to switch to a new level, have no idea what the carbon filter really does, less space than the drawer method and more expensive than drawers. Pros: nice to look at, I like the beetle/pupae tray for placing pupae, space saving compared to drawers, no odor (carbon filters don't seem to make a difference in odor), an easy way to start if you want to raise mealworms. The plastic is sturdy and easy to clean. Ventilation is good.

Amazing for my dragon crew!

I have five bearded dragons, two crested geckos, one leopard gecko, and a tarantula. With the amount of mouths to feed. Having mealworms is essential to me and I’m really excited to start this along with my dubia roach colony to help me save money and grow my own mealworms and Dubias! They are easy to clean, works wonders, and doesn’t smell! Easy on the eyes and just overall happy with this!

Amazing product!

The Bug Factory’s Mealworm Growing Pods are amazing for breeding mealworms for my reptiles and is super low-maintenance for me. I’m super busy with my six reptiles and being able to just throw some leftover veggies in the pod to let them do their thing is so helpful for me. Amazing product!

Thank you for the review. Low-maintenance and helpful- The Hatching Time Team

I know exactly where my hens treats have come from!

It's a little addictive to check up on the meal worms and search for pupa! To be able to 'grow' my own meal worm supply, sustainably and in a way I know exactly where my hens treats have come from is really pleasing!

I own three units

Very clean practical way to cultivate micro mealworms for a small aviary of finches — would have given 5 stars but somehow some mealworms have figured out how to jump green container … baffling..

Excited to start this project!

I am so excited to start my mealworm farm project! I plan to feed my critters fresh mealworms as well as provide backyard birds fresh treats!
I'm also planning on exploring mealworms as protein supplements for myself by making "flour" and other mealworm snacks!
Easy to set up and sleek designs. the carbon filters help cut down any smell. I haven't noticed any yet however.
Can't wait to show my friends and get them on the mealworm train :)

In hopes to less spending!

Amazing concept utilizing recycled materials. It’s compact and simple, easy to store and not an eye sore. A bit on the pricier side, but it’ll make its profits back, I’m sure!

Praktisch, sauber, einfach

So far so good.

I already had quite a lot of mealworms that were just beginning to pupate when I bought this & have been able to move these over to the tray over the last week or so, they seem to be doing ok & the first beetles have emerged from the pups, it will be a while before I can see if there are baby mealworms in the pod below but I think it will work well.
It’s a very easy & convenient way to keep the different life stages apart to avoid any getting eaten so I’m really happy with that.
I have moved some larger mealworms into the other trays but I’m not yet certain if the larger ones would do better in a deeper larger box as I’ve been keeping them for a while with a deeper substrate/food layer once they reach a good size but for the earlier life stages & for breeding I’m really pleased with it.
The price put me off buying one for a while but I’m glad I did in the end.
