Description
The Leghorn Cottage Chicken Coop is a compact starter coop designed for small backyard flocks. It accommodates up to 4 small breed chickens or 3 large hens, depending on breed size and free-range access, since hens primarily use the coop for roosting and laying.
With a footprint of 76” L x 31.5” W (34” including roof overhang), this coop fits well in smaller spaces while still supporting natural flock behavior such as shared nesting and side-by-side roosting. It works well not only for chickens, but also for ducks, quail, or pheasant.
Built from non-splintering fir timber, the coop comes with a water-based primer coat and is ready to be painted, stained, or sealed. Applying a protective finish after setup is recommended to ensure long-term durability in outdoor conditions.
The sliding hen house door with a metal handle allows you to easily secure your flock at night, while 15 inches of clearance beneath the coop adds usable space and improves airflow.
A key structural advantage is the run extending beneath the nesting box, providing critical support that helps prevent sagging over time—something commonly seen in coops without this reinforcement. Additional weather protection includes flashing above the nesting box and plastic-lined roof panels for improved insulation and moisture resistance.

Final Setup Recommendations
Apply a protective finish such as stain, sealant, or paint, as the factory coating is only a base layer. Minor touch-ups may be needed after transit.
Secure the coop with stakes or anchors for stability. Depending on your area, additional predator protection such as wire, pavers, or fencing may be beneficial. Regularly check hardware and latches to ensure everything remains secure.
