Description

Does not include water tank, frame, and wheels. Power-washable grow-out pen layer additions are perfect for expanding your production. Rear pullets (chickens), quail, pheasants, partridge, ducklings, goslings, teen turkeys, or game birds. With 15" of headspace, this unit will ensure your birds grow up safely before joining the flock. To prevent bird wetting, closed nipple drinker cups receive clean, algae-free water from the water tank above. To prevent foot problems, the flooring is slightly larger than the brooder yet smaller than the adult pens. The unit boasts an improved door locking system to prevent escapees. To remove waste efficiently, there is a deep manure tray. Red feed grill cover is included to eliminate the flinging of feed, thus saving money..

Key Features

1) Hygienic Manure Tray
Deep manure tray collects droppings below. Prevent disease by having a system that removes harmful substances, like bacteria, from your bird's living space.

2) Smart Feeder
Shock-proof, red grills lay on top of a removable feeding trough to reduce feed loss, inside and outside the cage. The removable feeding trough holds 6.5 pounds of feed. Customers claim to save 30% more of their feed with the flexible, shock-proof grills.

3) Automatic Drinkers
Water tank (sold separately) uses an anti-algae, silicone hose to deliver filtered water through an anti-bacterial PVC square pipe to 3 steel nipple drinkers. Drinker cups are attached below the nipple drinkers to prevent bird wetting and to keep the manure dry. A seamless watering nipple system promotes the highest level of hygiene.

4) Elliptical Flooring

What type of birds work with this unit?

This model (15") is best suited for larger poultry, such as chicken, goose, turkey, duck.

Are these types of cages similar to brooders?

Yes, they are! However, they are meant for juvenile birds and do not come with a heat source. These cages can be beneficial to help keep your younger and more mature birds separate as well as free up space in your brooder for incoming chicks!

Do the Grow Out Pens come with dividable middle walls?

No, they do not. We also do not sell anything separately that can be used as a divider. Our brooders are fully open on the inside and dividers are not advised as the water source is located on one end of the cage and the chicks would not have a way to remove themselves from the heat.

Using this for Runner Ducks

I have raised many chicks and ducks using the old fashioned “horse trough” and it’s a pain, lots of work! I came across HatchingTime and I’m glad I did! Raising baby chicks and ducks is a lot of work. HatchingTime helps lessen some of the work! So I got both the brooder and grow out pens for my 10 Indian runner ducks they are now 4 weeks old and today I moved them to the grow out pens. I have 10 so in order to give then enough room I separated 5 in each pen. I do move them around to keep them used to one another.
So the big thing that has worked out great for ducks is I decided to use the feed trough as a waterer and I had to figure my own thing for a feeder which was simple. Bottom line, this works great for the ducks using the feed trough as a waterer.

Excited to try this!

I have 3 layers in my set-up: 15" brooder layer, 9.5" brooder layer, and 16" growout pen layer. My chicks are coming up on 4 weeks old and the are still in the 15" brooder layer, but as they increase in size, I'm preparing to switch them over to this 15" grow out pen layer. I love how easily all the layers stack and I think if the weather were a bit warmer at night, they'd be ready to go to this layer now. However, since I have them in a workshop that is not heated, I want to wait until they are a little further along in feathering...and also want to make sure their bodies are large enough not to come through the front slats in case they try to squeeze through. They are nearly there (maybe one more week)! I'm SO glad I invested in 3 different sized layers up front so that I have the next one already set up and it will be a seamless transition for them!

More Natural

Of all the layers this one
Feels most natural.
It’s very useful for all stages and I might even see if a can get some hens to brood their own chicks in there. I’m using mine for quail.

Excellent Product

After ordering and having a chance to use the brooder pen, I was so pleased that I decided to go ahead and order the grow out pen. I love the convenience of the flexible water nipple height, and the juvenile birds (chickens, ducks, guineas) like being able to see out. Brooding chicks has always been a challenge with keeping babies consistently warm, and the space clean without having to move them to/from another container during the process. These pens are very easy to clean and maintain, plus they look nice and professional. The grow out pen (15") is also large enough to keep an adult bird if they need to be separated - I've got a hen who is way too popular with the boys and needs a break. Very happy with my purchases from Hatching Time!

The addition itself is awesome but the water stick was leaking at the end since day one. Waiting for replacement.

Yes. Mix-&-match different layers to create the perfect setup. Cimuka chick brooders can be stacked with our grow out pens and breeding cages. To create a custom tiered experience, choose from different layer additions. We recommend getting a 5 gallon water tank if you stack 3 or more layers.
