The Cimuka Layer Addition Game Bird Brooder is your all-in-one solution for raising healthy, happy game birds!

Designed exclusively as a stackable expansion module, this Layer Addition must be installed on a compatible Hatching Time brooder system. It does not include a water tank, support frame, wheels, or base brooder unit and is not intended for standalone use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of birds work with this unit?

This unit is best suited for smaller gamebirds, such as quail, partridge and pheasants.

Is the flooring interchangeable or adjustable?

No it is not. The Jumbo Flooring Upgrade is only available for our Adult Breeding Cages. The floor is specifically made to avoid any leg issues with chicks.

Do the Brooders come with dividable middle walls?

No they do not. We also do not sell anything separately that can be used as a divider. Our brooders are fully open on the inside and dividers are not advised as the water source is located on one end of the cage and the chicks would not have a way to remove themselves from the heat.

Chick brooder with heater

I recently purchased the Chick Brooder with Heater, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice! This product is incredibly well-designed, making it super easy to assemble, even for someone with minimal experience. The instructions were clear, and everything fit together seamlessly.

One of the standout features is its compatibility with existing cages. I was able to effortlessly attach it to my current setup, creating a cozy and safe environment for my chicks. The added heater works perfectly, providing consistent warmth to keep the chicks comfortable and healthy, especially during colder months.

The build quality is excellent, and it feels sturdy and reliable. Cleaning and maintenance are straightforward, which is a huge bonus when managing a brooder. Overall, this product has exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for a practical, easy-to-use, and efficient chick brooder, this is an excellent choice! Highly recommend!

Thank you for the review. We are thrilled we exceeded your expectations. We're proud to bring you the most technologically advanced poultry farming equipment on the market. The Hatching Time Team

Purchased for our newly hatched (reg sized) chicks

We previously purchased the 2 layer 15" brooders, and loved them so much, that we purchased a quail brooder for our newly hatched babies. I absolutely love the cage that goes over the feed trays!! They hop in there to eat, and it keeps them from scratching it out and getting it all over the place lol
These brooders have been the best investment yet!!!

Thank you for the review. The Hatching Time Team

Awesome Product!

I use this for my quail! I actually need more here pretty soon because one is not enough for what I’m hatching, and will 100% be ordering more! Quibodeaux’s Quail Co. loves HT and their products!🥰

My new favorite brooder

I purchased this brooder addition for quail. I am currently starting some bantam chicks in it and so far, I am blown away. The unit is easy to clean, makes feeding/watering a breeze, and really simplifies the process. It was a bit challenging to build, but after building the quail cage, I had a pretty good idea of what needed to go where. My only “complaint” or wish for future designs is some sort of guard to keep the chicks from walking in the feed tray. Mine think that’s a great place to sit and hang out. Otherwise, no complaints!

Thank you for the review, Jennifer. Our products are designed to me easy to clean and make feeding/watering easy too - plus the flexibility to customize your system. The white grill covers can be flipped over to close off the opening to the feed trough while the chicks use the starter feeders and grow large enough to not fit through the opening. Usually after 10-14 days. - The Hatching Time Team

Ok but should be improved

So far have had the 15 inch tall ones and just got this one 9.5 since starting quail and wanted heater closer the Matt’s are very hard to get in and out to thick and hard got rid of them and used blue paper shop towels instead and had one time quail pushed feed cover up and jumped off and died there should be some kind of lock on the sides of it to hold it down so can’t push it up other than that so far ok water cups ok just they jump in and water over flows at times but that is normal for chicks to do so

Thank you for the review, Brandon. The white feed cover grills can be turned over to close off access to the feeding troughs while the chicks use the starter feeders. Best of luck with your flock - The Hatching Time Team

Perfect Addition

This fit perfectly in our 1-layer brooder to add another level just as advertised. If you love the brooder your already have and looking for an addition, these are perfect so you don’t have to buy a complete new set up. I also love the fact I can mix and match every layer to fit my needs.

Thank you for the review, April. We loved seeing how you mixed and matched o create your cage system - The Hatching Time Team

Don't waste your money!

So I submitted an honest review about this brooder which hatching time has blocked from being posted. They are screening out negative reviews so you make a purchase with out fear which is what I did. I don't normally post reviews on products but am very disappointed with their honesty and integrity. My most recent purchase from hatching time this year was a brooder layer cage for my Coturnix quail that I'm raising. I intionally posted my honest review two weeks ago because they don't provide support for products under warranty. I have had nothing but problems with the most recent purchase. Before I could use it I had to whittle away at the plastic seems of the watering system they provide because it will flood water to the floor. After my first hatch with this new cage I had one of the clear brooder door clips break while trying to remove it for the first time to clean the cage. After my second hatch I found two more issues one was a support clip broke off for the food tray and the second was interior support frame broke. Hatching time will not honer these issues under warranty and wanted me to pay full price for replacements. See pictures attached. Beware! I do have two other layers stacked on top of these that I purchased from Hatching Time where I also had issues with the watering system as the watering nips will stick and flood your trays and the floor. To date I have spent well over $700 with this company while fixing many of their issues and am regretting my purchase because they don't honor defective products covered under warranty. Very disappointing and should have listened to several YouTubers complaining about the support this company provides. I'm sure this review will also get blocked so I will save my message this time because i want to warn those of you that are thinking about ordering from this company.

Michael, we are sorry you had issues with your most recent purchase from February. Reviews are posted to our website. We are looking into what happened in your case. We appreciate you for purchasing from us.
We are happy to work with our customers to replace any defective parts, or any items that got damaged during shipment. We worked with you after your 1st purchase and sent you replacement watering nipples and nipple cups as soon as you let us know there was an issue with the ones you received.
The manufacturer’s limited warranty only covers the electrical component – the heater. The other parts you mentioned are not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. We don’t send replacement parts after a customer has set up their cage and has begun using it. For customer service purposes, we did send you replacement for the clear door even though it was not under a warranty and was four months after date of purchase.
We work with our customers to find solutions that work for everyone. We want our customers to enjoy raising their birds in our cages. But as a business we do have to cut off replacing parts after a cage is set up and is being used for several months.

Great chick brooder

Great for quail chicks. I absolutely love that you can adjust the temperature as they grow. The **** does build up in the corners though and they can escape through the feeder and feed protector

Thank you for the review. The white grill covers can be flipped to close off access to the feeder - The Hatching Time Team

Don’t count on ever hearing back from them

Hello! I got the five tier with chick brooder top. I don’t have problems with the actual cage itself and honestly, it’s a great design. However, the entire caster base was shattered upon arrival, when I received it Jan 4th. I had put rocks where it is supposed to be, as it’s all I had available, thinking that I could have a new one sent out in a few days/weeks. January 5th of 2026 at 8:49 PM, I sent my first email. My second was 6th at 1:30 PM. I then wanted to give it some time, as I assumed they were just busy. After no reply for over 2 weeks, on 1/26 I sent my 3rd email at 10:31AM. then my 4th on 2/11, then my 5th at 3/1, etc. what I am hoping to convey is that it seems as though they do not want long term loyal customers, but rather a quick out the door sale. That safety hazard rock I mentioned is still there, as I have not heard back. So, safe to say, while the cage itself is good, it was delivered damaged, I tried to get help and I have been waiting since. So if you’re okay with that kind of customer service, go ahead. Oh! And the brooder stopped working less than 90 days in. I had used it twice.

Waterer issues

The inlet to the cage is too low so the line is constantly an air bubble, not allowing water to flow gravity fed the way it should, unless one hanger isnt used and waterers are on the floor. when it does flow it constantly runs water into the waste tray making a horrid smelling and difficult to remove water-waste mess in a thin tray.

escapees

just got this for the bantams, little escape artists, like that the fender will keep them in
